Toyota/Save Mart 350 Predictions
June 18, 2008
If you are fan of the typical race you see each and every week on the Sprint Cup Series, then you might not be to big a fan of the upcoming race this weekend. We strongly encourage you to take a closer look and maybe you like us will find a new respect for the road course drivers will be going after in California. This Sunday, June 22nd, drivers will gear up for the 2008 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. This race give some of the lessor name drivers a chance to take down the big dogs. For those who hate the road tracks there are only 2 of them all season, so either find a way to enjoy the race or wait another week. The track this weekend will make drivers have to deal with a very unusual 12 turns, making it one very difficult for many of the drivers. Last year Juan Pablo Montoya took home the checkered flag. If you are looking for a some big name drivers that seem to excel on these tracks, then watch out for Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon this weekend, as they have combined to win this race 7 times in the last 10 years. Now lets take a look at Jason Lowry’s 1-2-3 prediction for the upcoming race this weekend.
1. Tony Stewart – 4/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Stewart is one of the big name drivers that has been great on road courses throughout his career, as he has already piled up 6 wins on these types of tracks. Last year Stewart finished 6th and he last won the race back in 2005. Stewart is one of few drivers that have won multiple times on this track, and if he is able to win on Sunday it will be number 3. This season Stewart is still looking for his first win of the season, and it just might happen this weekend. Stewart best finish is still his 3rd place finish to open the season at the Daytona 500, but he was able to get back in the top 5 with a 5th place finish at the LIfeLock 400 last week.
2. Juan Montoya – 8/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Montoya is your defending champion, and one of those drivers that just does well on these types of tracks. You won’t see us picking this guy in the top 3 in many races this season, but with his success on road courses it makes him a good threat to do well this weekend. Montoya is a distant 22nd in the point standings, but he could improve that this weekend. He also had a 2nd place finish at the Aaron’s 499 a few races back.
3. Kyle Busch – 20/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Busch is the hated driver that every just loves to go after, but the thing is this year he is coming through better than ever. He is sitting in first place in the point standings and has looked better than everyone else on the track this season. Busch does have 3 top 10 finishes on road courses in his career including one at Infineon, so while we don’t think he will win he is a good choice to sneak into the top 3 this weekend.
