Odds the San Diego Chargers Win the Super Bowl
May 27, 2008
The San Diego Chargers Super Bowl odds appear to show some of the best value of any team in the playoffs. This team made an early exit from the postseason a year ago after a 14-2 regular season and it appears they have a chip on their shoulders heading into the playoffs. The rough start San Diego got off to this year has been erased by 7 straight wins. This could be another case of a team getting hot at the right time like we saw with the Steelers a couple years back. So, if you have already ruled out the Chargers, you may want to reconsider. If you’re not much for futures betting, make sure you play Dave Price’s daily NFL picks. Mr. Price finished the regular season as hot as the Chargers and he is off to a 3-1 start in the postseason. The Bolts did not look as sharp as they had been last week, toughing out a 17-6 win over Tennessee. But Tennessee made a conscious effort to take away the run and Phillip Rivers stepped up with a 292 yard performance to keep the offense productive. This game came without go-to receiver Antonio Gates who went down in the first half. When I said that Tennessee took away the run, I meant it. L.T. got just 42 yards on 21 carries. 2 ypc is not going to get the job done in the playoffs, but we anticipate him bouncing back with a big game. Chris Chambers showed that he is capable of stepping up grabbing six passes for 121 yards receiving on the day in Gates’ absence. Vincent Jackson also went over the century mark receiving. With the confidence level of these guys sky high right now, don’t be surprised if San Diego continues to take to the air to keep the defense honest on the run.
Defensively, San Diego kept the Titans out of the end zone last week, so they deserve some kudos, but the Colts offense has just a few more weapons. But with Shaun Phillips and Shawne Merriman, among others up front, these guys should be able to mount a solid pass rush so that Manning can’t just set in the pocket comfortably.
The Chargers are playing as well as anyone right now and the confidence that winning 7 games in a row produces makes them a strong value bet. If you’re looking for a good return on your wager and feel the Chargers can beat Indy again and get revenge against the Pats (if they beat Jacksonville), you may want to consider taking them at one of the houses listed below.
