2008 RBC Canadian Open Picks & Odds
July 22, 2008
This weekend golfers competing will be trying to win the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, unlike the British and the US, the Canadian Open is not considered nearly as important. In fact the most exciting thing about this weekend could be the fact that it has been nearly 54 years since a Canadian has won this event. Mike Weir had canadians going crazy in 2004 as he nearly become the first Canadian to win since Pat Fletcher did so in 1954. Weir will again try and be the first Canadian to win this weekend, but standing in his way in Jim Furyk, who has won 2 straight, but neither of the wins came at Glen Abbey Golf Course where they will be doing battle this weekend. To help you get ready for the upcoming event this weekend, Jason Lowry is going to take a close look at the favorites this weekend.
Jim Furyk +800
Its easy to see why Furyk is the overall favorite this weekend, as he has taken care of business the last 2 seasons in the Canadian Open. Furyk is coming in playing some of his best golf of the year including a solid tie for 5th in last weeks British open. Furyk is a safe bet to perform well this weekend.
Anthony Kim +1000
This year Kim is making a quiet run at a very successful season, as he has already put together 2 wins this season at the Wachovia Championship and a few weeks back at the AT&T Classic. Last week Kim put together a solid performance finished tied for 7th at the British Open, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this guy near the top on Sunday.
Mike Weir +1500
Canada’s real hope this weekend lies in the swing of Weir, who had Canadians on their toes back in 2004. Weir has really struggled this season, but does have a 2nd place finish at the Memorial Tournament. One thing in Weir’s favor this weekend is that Glen Abbey Golf Course is the same site of the 2004 tournament.
Stephen Ames +1500
Ames really hasn’t played that well this season, but he has turned it on in his last 5 tournaments, including a tie for 7th at the British last week. While Ames has a definite shot to win this weekend, we wouldn’t put our money on this guy to win this weekend.
