Sunday Sept. 7th the St. Louis Rams look avenge a terrible season by making a statement against this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Eagles are out to prove that they aren’t to far behind the Cowboys in the NFC East. As it stands right now the Eagles are 8-point favorites in this one, but to make sure you get the best lines available we suggest you check out live NFL odds page.

The Eagles are coming off a pretty disappointing season by their standards, as they finished up the season at 8-8, good enough for last in the AFC East. The Rams on the other hand came into the season with great expectations, and they responded by going 3-13, good enough for the 2nd worst record in the NFL. With both teams primed for improvement in 2008, lets take a look at what these teams will be sending to the field this Sunday. Bet Eagles -8.5 at JustBet.com

When you talk about the Eagles offense, there are two names that come to mind and that is running back Brian Westbrook and quarterback Donovan McNabb. While McNabb’s job seems to be on the line, many are thinking that he is ready for another huge season, that can lead this team back into the playoffs and Super Bowl contenders. Westbrook is arguably one of the most versatile backs the NFL has seen, as he is a great receiver and returner as well. McNabb doesn’t have a great amount of talent at the receiver position, but Kevin Curtis showed his explosion last year, and a healthy L.J. Smith should really make a big difference.

As for the Rams they too have a great combo of quarterback and runningback, in Marc Bulger and Steven Jackson. While Bulger has thrived throwing the ball to guys like Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, but Bruce is gone and its Drew Bennett’s turn to thrive. Jackson was picked to have a monster season last year, but injuries really slowed him down. We think you can expect a season more like 2006 from Jackson, where he lead the league in total yards. If Jackson gets the running game going, then this unit should be able to improve greatly from last season on this side of the ball.

Now we take a look at the Eagles defense, and they are solid all over this side of the ball. On the defensive line guys like end Trent Cole and tackle Mike Peterson make this group not only solid against the run, but they can get pressure on the quarterback as well. At linebacker the Eagles are young, as the projected 3 starters have a total of 5 years experience between them, but this group is athletic and can really get to the ball. The secondary took a huge step up when they added corner Asante Samuel to the mix, but the addition has made Lito Sheppard not to happy is the former All Pro is now a backup.

The Rams defense took a step in the right direction this year in the draft when they grabbed defensive end Jake Long with the 2nd pick in this year’s draft. Long is expected to move right in and take the right end spot, and the team is hoping that veteran Leonard Little can come back from injury and be a force on the opposite side. At linebacker the team is going with veteran Chris Daft to start the season on the outside, while Will Witherspoon continues to dominate in the middle. The secondary has some playmakers in safeties Oshiomogho Atogwe and Cory Chavous. The key to this unit remains on health, as many players had to miss significant time with injuries last year.

Predicted Score:
Rams 19
Eagles 28
