If it wasn’t for a mammoth season by Tom Brady, we might be talking about Brett Favre as the MVP of the league. Favre threw for 4155 yards with 28 touchdowns and just 15 interceptions. With a solid core of receivers and an improved running game, Favre has been able to be a little bit more patient on offense as he now feels he has plenty of weapons who can make plays.

Heading into the season, Green Bay looked like it would be an all pass team, much like the Lions, but Ryan Grant came out of nowhere to give the Packers some offensive balance. Grant nearly reached the 1000 yard mark on 188 carries and will be a vital asset in the playoffs as Favre and the receivers should garner most of the attention.

Not many QBs could say they had four solid option to throw to this season, but Favre was one of them that could. Donald Driver was his favorite target, pulling in 82 balls for 1,048 yards, but he was not the TD man. Greg Jennings caught the big ones with 12 of his 53 grabs counting for 6 points each. Those 53 catches went a long way as they totaled over 900 yards to give him an average of 17.4 yards per catch. Donald Lee and James Jones both caught just under 50 passes as well. It’s apparent that Favre does not lock in on receivers. He’s going to throw it to whoever is open, which makes defending Green Bay’s passing attack very difficult.

Green Bay’s improved defense is another reason why this team went from not making the playoffs to emerging as the number two seed. Aaron Kampman had another great season with 12 sacks and his partner in crime, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, has 9.5. The secondary is probably the best in the NFL with Al Harris and Charles Woodson locking up receivers. And A.J. Hawk is already coming into hi own as one of the toughest linebackers in the league. He reminds me a lot of Zach Thomas but faster.

If you feel the Packers have what it takes to win it all. Bet them at one of the above sportsbooks.
