Odds to win the AFC East in 2007
May 27, 2008
Last season’s Cinderella year by the New York Jets does not have me convinced that they could be the sleeper in this division. To no one’s surprise, the New England Patriots should run away with the AFC East division in 2007.

Buffalo endure another year in the rebuilding stages and Miami will have to learn a new offensive system which Cam Cameron will likely have to dumb down to fit the caliber of this team.
The New England Patriots went out to fill the pieces of the puzzle which it felt prevented them from reaching the Super Bowl last season. With wide receivers Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss now in Bean Town, Tom Brady should only be better. The Pats also went out an got versatile linebacker Adalius Thomas to take some pressure off an aging linebacker corps. This team has confidence, swagger, and will be disappointed with anything less than a Super Bowl championship in 2007. Unfortunately for bettors, the books are begging us to take anyone else as the Patriots are heavily favored at 1/5 odds to win the AFC East. This is probably just a wager you’re going to want to avoid because the value Patriots’ present is very poor.
The Jets will be the only team that has a shot at pushing New England in the division this year. First year head coach, Eric Mangini (who is a disciple of Bill Belichick) led the Jets to an unlikely 10-win season in 2006. A great year from Chad Pennington certainly didn’t hurt the major turnaround. Thomas Jones comes over from Chicago to give these boys an added boost on the offensive side of the football, but New York didn’t do enough on the defensive side of the ball for me to think that they can improve on last year’s campaign.
The AFC East will be dominated by the New England Patriots in 2007. Find out how far Dave Price has this team going in his 2008 Super Bowl predictions article.
