NFC East Predictions & NFL Betting Picks 2008
July 23, 2008
This season it looks like the NFC East is going to be dominated by the Dallas Cowboys. They are looking to have an excellent season and have hope for championship number six. The Giants just finished shocking the world last season and will also be in the hunt. Let’s take a look at the teams and odds in the NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys - Odds to Win the NFC East are -105 – The Cowboys are going to be returning many starters as well of both coordinators. Dallas felt like they already had a strong team and did not have to make any moves in the off season. They have also upgraded at a couple position with some solid players. Zach Thomas was signed after being released by Miami. They have also improved in 3 other key positions. At running back they have Felix Jones from Arkansas to replaced Julius Jones. Dallas also has Martellus Bennett at the tight end who will be replacing Anthony Fasano. The Cowboys also signed cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones who could make a big impact with them if he can stay focused. The offensive should be more innovative this year which means Tony Romo will be more productive. Dallas last won a Super Bowl in 1995 and has gone 0-5 in the postseason 11 years since. The Cowboys appear to be the best team in the NFC but everyone will judge them by how well they do in the playoffs.
New York Giants - Odds to Win the NFC East are +300 – Last season, the Giants went on to surprise everyone as they won the Super Bowl. The big question is are they hungry to win it again? Last season’s championship run was built on emotion and I think it will be very hard for them to do this again. Eli Manning has finally come into his own and is playing great football. He will have to continue to lead the Giants. Also New York’s defense will need to shine again as they did late last year. Whether or not the Giants can bring the same intensity as last season will be something to watch for. They have a legitimate shot at competing again this year.
Philadelphia Eagles - Odds to Win the NFC East are +350 – The Eagles chances of returning to a top contender in the NFC will be determined by whether or not Donovan McNabb has fully recovered from knee surgery. To help out McNabb coach Andy Reid added cornerback Asnate Samuel and pass rush specialist Chris Clemons along with a handful of others. The idea is to take the ball away and shorten the field to make McNabb’s job easier. Last year the Eagles were 5-8 but rallied back to finish .500. The Eagles will be decent this year but I don’t think they can compete for the NFC East title.
Washington Redskins - Odds to Win the NFC East are +600 – The Redskins are coming off a very emotionally draining season. Safety Sean Taylor was shot and killed and it took a toll on everyone. The Redskins rallied to make the playoffs before their coach Joe Gibbs retired. Jim Zorn will replace him this season. The roster will look a lot like least season, which means Washington should be better than average. Also a lot is going to depend on the development of quarterback Jason Campbell.
