Odds for the New England Patriots to Win the Super Bowl
May 27, 2008
Many futures bettors are taking a long look at the New England Patriots Super Bowl odds this season with the possibility that they could run the table undefeated. With New England already going 16-0 through the regular season, many sports bettors feel 3 more consecutive wins will be no sweat. Now is a great time to add futures betting to your NFL betting arsenal. Dave Price has listed some lines below to give you an idea of what you’re looking at if you want to take the Patriots to win the Super Bowl or the AFC Championship.
The Patriots odds to win the Super Bowl at Superbook are listed at -180 (that means you can win $10 for every $18 you risk). Taking them to win the AFC at -250 gives you a better number.
BetUS Sportsbook lists the Patriots odds to win the Super Bowl at -180 as well. If you want to take them to win the AFC Championship, then the line is at -275.
Bodog Sportsbook has the odds of the Pats winning the Big One at -250 with the line for them winning the AFC Championship game at -350.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see why so many people are betting the Patriots their Super Bowl picks. Tom Brady put together one of the best season in NFL History at the QB position, breaking the single season touchdown record and completing a ridiculous 69% of his passing attempts. Maybe some other QBs around the league could put up nearly as lofty numbers if they had an offensive line allowing just 21 sacks on the season.
Laurence Maroney’s ability to run the football provided New England with much needed balance, especially in a couple of their games when the weather was not conducive to doing much passing. Maroney averaged a staggering 4.5 yards per carry while gaining 835 yards on the season. Kevin Faulk is one of the best specialists in football and did a solid job spelling Maroney.
With Randy Moss and Wes Welker climbing on board this season, the Pats gained two of the best weapons in the league. Moss caught 98 passes for nearly 1500 yards despite facing constant double teams and set a NFL record with 23 TD receptions. Welker benefited greatly from the attention paid to Moss. He has 112 catches for nearly 1200 yards and added 8 TDs. Donte Stallworth also provided New England with another deep threat besides Moss. And we can’t forget to mention tight end Ben Watson who brought in 6 TDs.
There’s still more that could be said about the offense, but the defense deserves its respects. Tedy Bruschi, Junior Seau, Adalius Thomas, and Mike Vrable make up one of the best linebacker corps in the league as they combine speed, brute strength, intelligence, and experience. Rodney Harrison has been a staple in the secondary and Ellis Hobbs and Asanta Samuel have emerged into stars.
