Kansas Jayhawks vs. South Florida Bulls Picks, Odds, & Predictions
September 8, 2008
Saturday Sept. 13th, two of NCAA’s best will square off when #13 Kanasa Jayhawks head down south to take on the #19 South Florida Bulls. Both teams come into the game 2-0, and the Bulls needed everything they had last week, as they needed overtime to take down the UCF Knights at their place. On the other hand the Jayhawks were impressive again beating Louisiana Tech 29-0. Both teams have BCS hopes, and a win this weekend, would really help those chances. Here is a look at both teams heading into the game this weekend.
Current odds at JustBet.com
Kansas +3.5
South Florida -3.5
Though the Jayhawks were only able to score 28 points, they were able to pile up over 500 yards of offense. Quarterback Todd Reesing was apart of many of those yards throwing for 412 yards and 3 touchdowns. With all those yards in the air someone had to be racking up the receiving yards, and the two guys doing the most damage were Dezmon Briscoe who had 7 catches for 146 yards and 1 touchdown, while Daymond Patterson grabbed 8 balls for 130 yards and 2 scores. The running game was pretty solid as junior Angus Quigley ran for 5.6 yards per carry in his way to 84 yards on the ground. The Jayhawks offense will be asked to put up much of the same this weekend.
Defensively the Jayhawks have been solid as well, allowing just 10 points on the season, and are coming off a shutout last week. They did allow Louisiana Tech to pile up over 300 yards, including a 78 yard run by Livas. Sophomore Chris Harris grabbed his first pick of the season for the only turnover of the game. If the Jayhawks are going to win this one, the defense will have to be able to stop the passing and rushing attack of quarterback Matt Grothe. Bet Kansas +3.5 at Justbet.com
Speaking of Grothe, who just so happened to pile up 346 yards in the air, including a 25yd game winning pass to Taurus Johnson in overtime. Grothe also was the leading rusher for the Bulls running 20 times for 54 yards. So its easy to see where the offenes comes from, and it will all be about who else can step up. Johnson did his part grabbing 6 balls for 143 yards. Senior tight end Cedric Hill chipped in as well with 2 touchdown grabs. Grothe is the key to this game, as he has to get the Bulls in the endzone to keep up with the Jayhawks, and his ability to do just that is why the Bulls have a great chance of winning this weekend.
The defense of the Bulls was solid for 3 quarters as they really only gave up 3 points, as UCF scored its touchdown early on a 91 yard kick return for a touchdown. But the 4th quarter was a little different story as the defense gave up 2 scoring passes with less than 3 minutes to go, including a 31 yard strike to tie the game with just 1:40 left on the clock. The secondary will be tested again this weekend, and if they are unable to stop Reesing from throwing all over them, it could end up being a long day. Home field should make it harder on the Jayhawks, but if it is taken out of play early it could end up lopsided. Bet South Florida -3.5 at JustBet.com
