Kansas City Chiefs Predictions & 2008 NFL Picks
August 12, 2008
For a team rich in tradition with die hard fans, the AFC West 2008 Kansas City Chiefs season could be a hard pill to swallow. Head coach Herm Edwards has not hid the fact that this will be a rebuilding year for a Chiefs team that will rely heavily on young players to carry the team. While K.C may fall on hard times this season their is still young talent in place to steal a few games in the top-heavy AFC West division. The 2008 Kansas City Chiefs NFL predictions have K.C at 100-1 odds to win the 2009 Superbowl.
Brodie Croyle will be the quarterback in charge of an offense designed around the abilities of RB Larry Johnson. When on his game, Larry Johnson is a problem for any defense in the NFL. When Johnson is not on his game he pouts and becomes an average back. Adding depth to the running game will be 3rd round draft steal Jamaal Charles (4.40 speed) from Texas. QB Brodie Croyle has a nice tool set but he still has not show the mental aptitude to be an NFL starter. Croyle will be pushed by savvy, but physically limited backup Damon Huard in the pre-season. WR Dwayne Bowe and TE Tony Gonzales gives the Chiefs some nice big targets in the red-zone. Starting opposite of Bowe will be Devard Darling who is a big target that can stretch the field with his 4.40 speed. The #3 wideout will be 4th round pick William Frankiln who is still raw but has elite 4.35 speed. The Chiefs O-line will be their biggest obstacle to overcome on the team. The O-line is weak and will need 1st round pick OG Brandon Albert (6′7″ 315 Lb.) to start immediately at left tackle. 2008 Kansas City Chiefs NFL predictions to win the AFC West are at +1200 odds.
The K.C cover-2 defense is head coach Herm Edwards baby and the addition of dominant #5 overall pick DT Glenn Dorsey is huge. The 6′2″ 300 Lb. Dorsey is a disruptive interior force that blows plays up in the backfield with his explosiveness. The Chiefs will need Dorsey to help improve a K.C run defense that ranked 28th in yards per carry allowed. The D-line lost pass-rush menace DE Jared Allen but is still a very promising unit. DE Tamba Hali has great potential if he can stay healthy and could be a future Pro-Bowl player. All of last year’s starters return from a top-10 NFL linebacking group. OLB Derrick Johnson is a Pro-Bowl talent and OLB DeMorrio Williams was a fine athlete added in the off-season. The Chiefs secondary is one of the weaker groups in the NFL with a very suspect starting corner in Patrick Surtain. 2nd round pick CB Brandon Flowers will be counted on to use his physical play to be a factor immediately as a starter. The safeties Bernard Pollard and Jarrad Page could both be solid players with more game time experience. The special teams have a good punter in Dustin Colquitt but are a below-average unit overall with the kicking job up for grabs.
The Kansas City Chiefs will have a tough time getting wins in 2008 but they could be a factor in 2009. My NFL predictions for the AFC West Kansas City Chiefs is that they will finish last in their division. Larry Johnson is a special player but they still need a bigger playmaker at QB to become contenders again. The Kansas City Chiefs OVER\UNDER is at 5.5 WINS with the OVER at -155.
