Of course you don’t have to wait until the brackets are out to get your wagering in, you can bet on the games during the season, and if you know what you are doing you’ll make a decent amount doing it.  The best way to make money is to get signed up for our NCAA basketball picks, but if you are going to go at it alone then here are some tips to use.

1. Look at the home court advantage: Think about how much crazier the home crowds are in college than the NBA.  The student sections normally go nuts, it’s noisier, and there seems to be more at stake in every game.  Couple that with the fact that the college kids aren’t as used to traveling as NBA players, and you’ll get a real advantage for the home team over the visitors.  The factor ranges up to ten points in the NCAA basketball odds from a home to away if you are playing in a real madhouse.

2.  Study Rebounding: College players just don’t shoot as well as their pro counterparts.  This means that if a team can rebound they get second chance points close to the basket, and they keep the opposition from getting those same chances.  If a team has a large edge in rebounding margin, they should be favored to win the game.

3.  Motivation: The smaller schools are always gunning for the one or two big names on their schedule.  Every year the pundits start talking about how much more balanced the talent is in college basketball, but more likely than not the big school got beat because they took a team lightly, and that team treated the game like it was their national championship.

4.  Stay away from big games: Think about how many lines there are on a Saturday in college hoops.  If you think all of these games were given equal attention then you’d be dead wrong.  The big games between high profile teams are normally given a lot more attention, so you can bank on their lines being a little tighter.  We like to look at the lesser known schools so you can get soft lines that are easy to beat.  If you know a local school inside and out, chances are you can capitalize on their games, so do it.
