The Cowboys cruised through their schedule this season without much of a problem and much of this success can be attributed to the maturation of QB Tony Romo. Romo threw for over 4200 yards with 36 TDs and 19 INTs. This kid did not want to be known as the guy who fumbled the snap in last year’s Cowboys’ playoff game so he worked hard to get even better this season. His ability to move outside the pocket makes him a very tough player to scout.

Dallas’ ability to run the ball helps Romo out as much as anything as defenses must respect the combo of Marion Barber and Julius Jones. Barber rushed for 975 yards at a 4.8 ypc clip and Jones totaled 588 yards on a 3.6 ypc average. Jones was used to run up inside to get the tough yards while Barber displayed his all-around explosiveness.

Terrell Owens, whether you like him or not, is one of the best weapons in the NFL. He’s big, strong, and fast. He can play as a possession guy and also as a deep threat. He has 81 receptions for 1355 yards and 15 TDs. Patrick Crayton really emerged as a go-to guy as well with 50 catches for 697 yards. Tight end Jason Witten is perhaps the best tight end in all of football. He had a career season with 96 catches for 1145 yards.

Wade Phillips came in and did with the defense what he needed to do. They played a less system oriented defense and one more built around speed. Roy Williams and DeMarcus Ware really reaped the benefits. If you aren’t pulling the trigger on the Cowboys, perhaps you are concerned about the 20ppg they allowed. We don’t see this as a big concern with the Cowboys getting home field and the added intensity of the postseason.
