Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Predictions
September 3, 2008
This weekend NASCAR heads to Richmond International Speedway for the 2008 Chevy Rock & Roll 400. This race signifies the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs for the top 12 drivers in the point standings after the race. The defending champion Jimmie Johnson will be looking to make it two in a row after taking home the Pepsi 500, and putting his name in the mix of drivers with a shot of winning the Points Championship. Johnson has a lot of catching up to still do, but there is no reason to doubt Johnson, who is the two time defending Points Champion. With a lot at stake this weekend for the leaders, and those fighting to get in the mix of the final 12, Jason Lowry is going to bring you his weekly 1-2-3 predictions for the race this weekend.
1) Jimmie Johnson +600 odds at BetUS.com
As we said Johnson has pretty much put his name in the mix with Edwards and Busch, and with 2 wins here already there is no reason to think he can’t pull off another win this weekend. With the win last weekend Johnson jumped to 3rd in the standings, and who can argue with arguably the best driver over the previous two seasons. While the wins haven’t been coming in bunches this season, Johnson has 8 top 5 finishes and 13 top 10 finishes as well. We are expecting big things out of the 48 car again this weekend.
2) Tony Stewart +1000 odds at BetUS.com
What a disappointing season it has been for Stewart so far, as he has nearly went the entire 2008 season without capturing a win, and though Stewart will be in the Chase lineup, a win this weekend would really give him some much needed momentum going into the playoffs. We think Stewart falls short once again, but we do see him racing well and finishing in the top 3.
3) Matt Kenseth +1500 odds at BetUS.com
Kenseth last won here at Richmond back in 2002, and he really hasn’t stopped piling on the the good performances since then. Kenseth has finished in the top 10 nine times here in his career, and we think that this week Kenseth not only races well, but if the other two slip up he could grab his first win of the season this week. Either way keep your eye on the 17 car this weekend, as he look to secure a spot in the top 12.
