San Diego Chargers Indianapolis Colts Playoff Game Prediction
May 22, 2008
Dave Price posts the San Diego Chargers v. Indianapolis Colts odds below to give you an initial look at one of the AFC Division playoff contests. But make sure you check out Dave Price’s NFL odds page to see if this line changes due to Antonio Gates playing or not playing for the Chargers. This doesn’t figure to change the line drastically, but his status will most definitely figure in to the oddsmakers final decision. If you are going to get in on the action for this contest, make sure you read through this article as Dave Price reveals information that you’ll find helpful in determining your side. Dave Price went 3-1 during the first round of the playoffs and is on a 20-10-1 NFL run. The Chargers come into this one off a challenging round one win over the Tennessee Titans and may be playing without star receiver Antonio Gates this week. His current status is questionable, and with Gates perhaps not playing, they will rely even more heavily on LaDainian Tomlinson. The All-Pro backed only tallied 42 yards on 21 carries as Tennessee really went after stopping the run game. In the past though, Tomlinson has always bounced back from rough weeks. Phillip Rivers did show that he was worthy of the All-Pr status he earned last season by throwing for 282 yards through the air with receiver Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson stepping up. San Diego has shown that it can win games with its defense. It held Tennessee to just 248 totals yards. The Bolts are only allowing 17.8 ppg this season while scoring 25.8 ppg. Last week’s win improved them to 12-5 straight up and ATS on the year. Many bettors are forgetting how solid this team has been against the number and the fact that they beat Indy earlier this year.
The Colts come in off of a bye week which means they’ll be rested and ready to go. It is statistically proven that Divisional round home teams have had the advantage in the past, and the Colts are looking to get past San Diego to set up a rematch with the New England Patriots. The public has not fallen in love with the Colts this season the way they have in year’s past. It’s almost as if they have forgotten that they are 13-3 straight up and 9-7 ATS. Indy’s defense was a huge question mark heading into the postseason a year ago, but it rose to the occasion. This time around there is no question mark with defensive juggernaut Bob Sanders at 100 percent.
Here are some important trends:
The Chargers have won 7 straight games ATS.
The Chargers are 5-2 straight up and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games played at Indy.
San Diego is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 Overall games versus the Colts.
The Bolts are 10-4 OVER in their last 14 road contests.
The Colts are 16-2 in their last 18 home games.
The Colts are 8-1 ATS in a home game where the total is greater than or equal to 45.5 over the last 2 seasons.
Indy is 6-0 OVER after failing to cover the spread in 2 out of their last 3 games this season.
The Colts are 7-2 straight up and 6-3 ATS in Dome games this season.
