This year it looks like the AFC South is going to be won handily again by the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are again pretty big favorites to take the division. If they continue to dominate and play the same style of football it will be really hard for anyone in the AFC South to compete. Let’s take a look at the Colts, as well as the rest of the teams in the AFC South:

Indianapolis Colts ( Odds to Win the AFC South -154) – Each and every single year the Colts seem to put out a very quality team. However each season has some defections but they still manage to find talent within their limited player pool to try to fill some voids. This year will be no different for Indianapolis. Peyton Manning of course is the key piece of the puzzle and he will need to have another great year. The Colts will also need to find some replacements to players who are either banged up or have moved on. Many players on the defensive end have moved on and will be hard to replace. Also, the Colts running game is very below average. Joseph Addai is a great athlete but he cannot be the only guy and will need some help. The Colts may win the AFC South this year but might have problems going deep in the playoffs.

Jacksonville Jaguars ( Odds to Win the AFC South +200) – The Jaguars seem to be getting better and better as the years go by. They always seem to have a decent team but are never really able to go far. In the upcoming season they have a legitimist shot of winning the AFC South as they improved their offensive. Jacksonville will rely heavily on their rushing game again. The combination of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew was unstoppable. They led the AFC with almost 150 years per game. With some improvements in the passing game the Jaguars could have a very deadly offense in 2008 and may surprise some people.

Tennessee Titans ( Odds to Win the AFC South +700) – Last season the Titans relied heavily on their defense to help them win games. They will look to do the same in 2008 as their offense has not really proven themselves yet. Jeff Fisher is a great coach, but the Titans do not seem to be that talented of a team. I don’t feel they have the proper players to lead them to an AFC South title this year. Last season they ranked 31st in points scored per game at 19.8 and ranked 9th in points allowed per game with 21. I just don’t think they really have what it takes, so don’t expect too much from them.

Houston Texans ( Odds to Win the AFC South +1500) – Houston always seems to have a tough year. No matter how much better they get or improve they always have to contend with the top teams and are still not really on the same level as them. The bright spot for them is that they have a lot of young players who will eventually develop into superstars. On defense, they have Mario Williams, Amobi Okoye and DeMeco Ryans, who have a lot of potential for the future. Last year the Texan’s allowed 24.6 points per game and were ranked 20th in the entire NFL. They will face a tough 2008 schedule and I don’t expect them to even come close to winning the AFC South. Look for them to rebuild and possibly make some noise in a couple years when their young players mature.
