AFC North Predictions & 2008 NFL Picks
August 1, 2008
This season there is going to be some much improved teams in the AFC North division. Two teams will be fighting for top spot as the Cleveland Browns have really improved and look to compete. The other team is the Pittsburg Steelers who always produce a quality squad. Let’s take a look at all the teams and odds in the AFC North:
Cleveland Browns ( Odds to Win the AFC North +180) – This season the Browns are going to be much improves on all aspects of their game. Cleveland still have a pretty brutal schedule but I feel that if they can win some of these games they will be able to claim top spot in the AFC North. The Browns have not won a division title since back in 1989 and they are due. Last year they averaged 25.8 points per game and allowed 21.5 a game. New acquisitions, Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers will help them improved these numbers. There passing game is also very strong with Derek Anderson having targets like Braylon Edwards and Donte Stallworth. I really feel like it will be the Browns year in the AFC North.
Pittsburg Steelers ( Odds to Win the AFC North +100) – As per usual the Steelers will put out another quality team which is capable of winning a Super Bowl. They should have a fairly explosive offense in 2008 and a pretty good defense as well. There schedule is tough and there will be a big match up vs the Browns. Last year the Steelers put up 24.7 points a game and allowed 23.2. Pittsburgh’s biggest threat is their rushing offense. They will be ready to attack the quarterback this season. The Steelers will be a quality team this year and will be fighting for top spot in the AFC North.
Cincinnati Bengals ( Odds to Win the AFC North +500) – Off the field issues are really a problem with the Bengals. Cincinnati has only made the playoffs one time in the last 17 years and it shouldn’t change this season. The truth is that Carson Palmer is capable of leading the team into the playoffs, but it is hard without much support. The Bengals defense is too inexperienced and the running game has way too many question marks. Last year Cincinnati scored 22.2 points a game and allowed almost 30 points game. This will not be the Bengals year in the AFC North.
Baltimore Ravens ( Odds to Win the AFC North +800) – It looks like the Baltimore Ravens will have a very similar team to last year. They had a horrible year last season going 5-11. The Ravens don’t really look like they are heading in the right direction. They are getting older and slower. Baltimore averaged 20 points a game last year, while their defense allowed 27.2 points per games. They still have key names like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs but it will be very hard for them to compete. I think they will end up last in the AFC North as they look to rebuild.
