2009 Big East Football Predictions
September 4, 2009
In the eyes of the football experts the Big East will not be a college football powerhouse by any means in 2009, as no team has a clear cut path to the conference title, and no team figures to make any sort of run at the National Championship. It should end up being very similar to the 2008 season, where the Cincinnati Bearcats surprised everyone and won the division going 6-1 with 3 teams finishing just 1 game back. Here is a look at how I see the Big East shaping up in 2009. It looks like it will once again be a 4-way race between Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia, and South Florida. While anyone of these teams could come away with the title, I think the early edge has to go to the Pittsburgh and South Florida, as both of these schools have their starting quarterback back from a year ago. That doesn’t mean you can count out West Virginia and Rutgers. The Mountaineers will likely be very explosive on offense, as they return running back Noel Devine, and it looks like senior quarterback Jarrett Brown will be a solid replacement for Pat White. Rutgers might not be the most talented of the bunch, but they get Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and South Florida at home, so there is no question the schedule favors the Scarlet Knights. While I am giving no shot to Syracuse to win the Big East this season, Cincinnati, Connecticut, or Louisville could surprise and make a run at the top four teams. The Bearcats have a ton of talent back on offense, but just 1 starter back on defense. The Huskies must replace their starting quarterback, running back, and six more starters on defense. The Cardinals were able to upset South Florida last season, but it was their only conference win. Bet every Big East game this season at Sportsbook.com.
