Odds to Win the 2008 Super Bowl
May 22, 2008
The 2008 Super Bowl odds extend past the regular point spread, total, and money line wagers as several online sportsbooks also offer Super Bowl props to take action on. In this article, we’ll discuss the line movement of the spread and total and we will also discuss other Super Bowl odds that you can wager on.
The New England Patriots opened as 13.5-point favorites against the New York Giants. While the public normally falls in love with the favorite, it wasted no time climbing on board the Giants’ bandwagon lowering the line to as low as -11 at some books. The public is reacting to the 3-point margin of the week 17 matchup and the fact that the Giants have been on a roll on the road.
The total started at 55.5 for Super Bowl XLII betting action but has since been bet down to 53.5. This is also odd as the Over usually gets more of the Super Bowl betting attention. It is surprising that the public has gone with the Under with the first meeting totaling 73 points. I suppose their reasoning is that neither team has scored quite as much in the postseason, but don’t forget that this game will be played in a nice climate conducive of throwing the football.
Bodog Sportsbook, BetUS.com, and Superbook are three of the industry leaders in online gaming and each have an extensive list of Super Bowl props to allow you to get in on the action throughout the game.
You’ll find both individual and team props asking for wagers on everything from how many passing attempts Tom Brady will have to which team will score first in the game. Some of these wagers, such as “who will win the coin toss” are literally a coin toss and we don’t recommend you wasting your money on chance. Others can be handicapped and we feel that bettors can really take advantage of the books in the Super Bowl props category as this many lines inevitably means some mistakes.
Some of the most fun Super Bowl props are those that call for you to think outside the box. Superbook has a series of cross-sport props for you to take a look at. One of them asks you to wager on if the New England Patriots or Kobe Bryant will score more points on Super Bowl Sunday. The Lakers are playing the Wizards on the road earlier in the day. Oddsmakers are currently giving Kobe half a point. They also list a few other wagers comparing Wes Welker’s receptions to Kobe’s free throws made and Tom Brady’s completions to Kobe’s field goal attempts. There are a lot of these and we urge you to check them out.
While all these props are fun, hitting the winning side and total in the Super Bowl is what it is really all about and that’s where Dave Price has you covered. Make sure you’re on board for Dave’s Super Bowl Sunday selections.
