With the Super Bowl just days away now, hopefully you have already pinned down your side so you can start to focus on which player you feel will take home Super Bowl MVP honors. If you haven’t already made a decision on which team you are taking to pay dirt, check out Dave Price’s NFL picks package for both side and total winners on Super Bowl Sunday. This article lists the Super Bowl MVP odds from Bodog Sportsbook below. We’ll discuss several players with a shot at winning the prestigious award to help you make your decision.

A quick look at history narrows down who you should be taking to win the Super Bowl MVP award in a hurry. The position most likely to take home the MVP award is the quarterback position. The QB has won Super Bowl MVP honors in 21 of the previous 41 Super Bowl games. The next highest position on the list is the running back position with 7 MVP’s. That narrows us down to either Tom Brady or Eli Manning.

The next thing to look at when selecting the Super Bowl MVP is which team you feel will win the game. It would take an otherworldly performance for a player to be awarded MVP honors from the losing team, and even then, it would more than likely be a co-MVP with a player from the winning team getting a share of the honors.

With oddsmakers installing the Pats as double digit favorites, the odds are that they will win the game, so I’m going to have to make my Super Bowl MVP prediction on Tom Brady. The guy has already won two Super Bowl MVP awards and was the MVP of the entire league this season. He shows the worst odds of any player, and rightfully so, but I feel he gives us the best chance to win.

While more value can be found with other players, I feel as though I would be playing them just for value sake and that is something you do not want to do. While 5 receivers have won the MVP award in the history of the Super Bowl, it would be hard for me to take one here. Randy Moss finished as the NFL MVP runner-up this season, but he has been very quiet in the playoffs as teams have denied him the football. If you feel this is a receiver’s award to be won, Wes Welker has been much more productive in the postseason and is showing better odds than Moss. But I still think you can’t look past the guy delivering the football in Super Bowl XLII.

Defense never seems to get as much respect as deserved and if the first meeting between these teams was any indicator, defense won’t be much of a factor. Good Luck with your 2008 Super Bowl MVP selection.
