2008 Deutsche Bank Championship
August 25, 2008
The first round of the PGA TOUR Playoffs is in the books, and it keeps on rolling this weekend with the 2008 Deutsche Bank Championship from TPC of Boston. Last week Vijay Singh was able to take home the win at the Barclays, after beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff. With the first round of the playoffs being so exciting, fans are really in for a treat if things continue on the same path. One guy many fans want to see do well is Phil Mickelson, and after failing to get it going over the weekend, he will head into this weekend as the defending champion here, and try and jump into the lead now held by Singh. To help you get going on the tournament this weekend, Jason Lowry is going breakdown the 4 favorites chances of winning this weekend.

The defending champion is in need of a win this weekend, and he couldn’t ask for a better time to roll into the Deutsche Bank Championship. Mickelson is considered by many to be the No. 2 golfer in the world, but with Tiger out of the picture, he really needs to show it with a win in the playoffs this season. As good as Tiger has looked Phil might not get too many more chances to win this thing, and you know its something he wants to add to his career achievements. We really like this guys chances this weekend, but its hard telling what Phil will show up at the golf course.
Sergio Garcia +900 at BetUS.com
Garcia has had some tough luck in winning over the last few weeks, but he is really playing some great golf. With 2 straight 2nd place finishes there is no way you can count this guy out this weekend. Garcia could be finally making the turn into becoming the player everyone thought he would be, and not to mention this guy sits in 2nd behind Singh, and a win this weekend would put him in the driver seat with just 2 tournaments to go.

What a performance this guy put up over the weekend, as he really played well. The thing that won the tournament was Singh’s putter, that continued to make big putts when called upon. This weekend Singh sits in the position to where he wins a again and he would really have a great shot at winning the playoffs this season, but a bad performance could push him back to where he has to claw his way back to the top with just 2 to go.
Padraig Harrington +1800 at BetUS.com
We were really high on Harrington going into the Barclays, but things just didn’t go the way they were suppose to, as Harrington failed to make the cut. That performance dropped Harrington 19 spots in the point standings, as he went from 4th to 23rd. If Harrington wants to get back in contention and add to a season that already includes 2 major victories, he has to play well this weekend, and we think he will.
If you want to get a bet in on any of these guys this weekend, head over to BetUS.com and get an account up and running today.
