2008 Buick Open Picks & Odds
June 23, 2008
If you are fan of watching some of golfs best struggle to put up birdies and low numbers over a weekend, than you might want to look the other way when players go after Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club this weekend at the Buick Open. This event is one of the more entertaining events to watch, and the electricity #17 has is worth watching and even better to be a part of. The par 3 always has some of the rowdiest fans you will find at a golf event, as it is called ny many “the second largest outdoor cocktail party in the world.” While some players probably would rather do without it, many of them love the event and mark it down as one they will play in early in the year. The tournament did take a slight blow after Tiger Woods was scratched from this and every other event in 2008, after announcing he was taking the rest of the season off to repair his knee. Last year Brian Bateman took home the trophy, and will be glad to know he can go for a repeat without Tiger in the field. With the tournament only a couple days away, Jason Lowry is ready to take a look at three of the favorites chances of winning this weekend.
Jim Furyk - 10/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Furyk plain and simply loves to play at Warwick Hills, and he usually plays pretty good. Since winning the tournament in 2003 the worst Furyk has finished is tied for 6th. He finished 2nd in 2006 to Tiger Woods and finished tied for 5th a year ago. We don’t think you will find a better golfer who you can count on to play well this weekend. So its easy to see why this guy has 10/1 odds, and is the overall favorite to win this tournament.
Kenny Perry - 12/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Perry is another golfer that has been playing well here, as he was the winner here in 2001 and finished tied for 10th here a year ago just 3 shots off the lead. Perry is 5th in the FedEx Cup point standings and his 21st ranking in driving distance will like play a big part in this guy performing well. He also played well last week at the Travelers Championship finishing tied for 6th.
Justin Leonard 14/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
The theme continues with Leonard we got a another guy that seems to play well here more than he doesn’t Leonard won this tournament all the way back in 1996, and he almost got his 2nd win here with a 2nd place finish last year just one shot off the lead. Leonard is having a outstanding season, as he is currently 3rd on the money list, and is only two tournaments from his first win of the season at the Stanford St. Jude Championship.
