2008 Big Ten Football
June 27, 2008
The Big Ten Conference does not look to be very strong at all this upcoming season. I think that there is going to be a run away winner. The Ohio State Buckeyes look to be just too strong of team for anyone to compete with. They seem to be at a different level then everyone else. Let’s take a look at the Buckeyes as well as some other teams that have a chance to do well in the Big Ten:
Ohio State Buckeyes (+120) – The Buckeyes look to be massive early favorites to win the Big Ten, as it is no surprised to see why they are at the top of the leader board. Last season in college football they were ranked number 1 in pass defense and also number 3 in the nation in run defense. They will be returning a plethora of starters and have high hopes this season after last year’s disappointing BCS Championship loss. Six of the front seven are going to be back, hungry to return. With so many starters back there going to push for their third straight birth at the BCS Championship. The Buckeyes have many threats on the offensive end as well. They have one of the top running backs in the nation in Chris Wells. Last year he ran for over 1600 yards and had 15 touchdowns. Quarterback Todd Boeckman should have no trouble getting him the ball this season. Receivers Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline will help the offensive load. They had 55 catches for 935 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. With all these weapons I think Ohio State will have another amazing year.
Wisconsin Badgers (+250) – Wisconsin’s last season should have been a banner year for them after they had a 12-1 season prior. They only managed 9 wins and were very disappointed. They will return many starters on both ends of the ball, but will be missing a key piece at the quarterback position. Tyler Donovan has moved on, which now means that Allan Evridge is going to get a shot to run the show and call the plays. At the running back position junior P.J Hill, will get the call. He had an amazing freshman year and will get his chance to shine again this year. He managed to play thought injuries last season and still had over 1000 yards. I like this one two combo for the Badgers and I think they will give the Buckeyes some competition in the Big Ten.
Michigan Wolverines (+500) – The Wolverines are going to take a very big hit in talent this season. They will also need to adjust to their new coach, Rodriguez, and his system. His record is able to speak for itself as he runs a very good system. The offense is probably going to be the biggest concern for Michigan this year. They lost all of their leaders and big time players. Their quarterback, Chad Henne is gone, along with tailback Mike Hart and key receiver Mario Manningham. This will be a rebuilding year for the Wolverines and I feel they won’t pose any real threat in the Big Ten.
