Its time to get serious, as the PGA Tour moves onto its 2nd annual FedEx Cup points playoffs this weekend. The first of the 4 events is the Barclays at Ridgewood Country Club set to get underway this Thursday in New Jersey. With no Tiger Woods to repeat as champion, it leaves it pretty wide open for the rest of the field. Perry has the early lead coming in on top, but he won’t have much room for error, as guys like Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, and Anthony Kim all sit close behind. Last year Steve Stricker took home the trophy here, and he will look to make it two in a row this weekend. While some golfers really don’t have a great shot at winning there is plenty of reason to play well, including a $7,000,000 purse. As good as Woods is this might be the only time many of these golfers will have a chance of winning this thing for maybe the next decade, so playing well over the next 4 tournaments could really go a long way in a golfers career. To help you get going Jason Lowry is going to take a closer look at the 3 favorites to win this weekend.

Phil Mickelson +800 odds at BetUS.com
Mickelson comes into the playoffs off his 7th place finish at the PGA Championship a couple weeks ago, and you have to know that this is something Phil really wants to add to the trophy case, and a win this weekend could really help his chances. Phil currently is just 250 points behind the leader Kenny Perry, an amount he can easily overcome. Mickelson is the only favorite that has yet to win at the Barclays, but he did pretty well a year ago finishing tied for 7th. Mickelson hasn’t won of late, but you have to like his chances this weekend.

Padraig Harrington +1000 odds at BetUS.com
Harrington comes in just 250 points behind Mickelson, and is easily the hottest golfer as of late winning the final two majors of the season in just a matter of 3 weeks. Harrington came from behind to steal the show most recently at the PGA Championship putting up back-to-back rounds of 66 over the weekend. Harrington does spend a lot of time on the European Tour, but that really doesn’t matter when it comes down to results. We think Harrington is the guy to beat this weekend, and is our pick to take home the entire playoffs.

Sergio Garcia +1200 odds at BetUS.com
Garcia once again had his chance to win a major at the PGA Championship and wound up finishing 2nd, as Harrington just played too well on Sunday. The plus side of this is Garcia’s game looked good again, and it could mean he is ready to play well and take home the trophy this weekend. Garcia currently sits a long way from first and would likely need to not only win this weekend, but need some help from others, but you just never know. We expect to see Garcia in the top 10 this weekend.
