2008 PGA TOUR AT&T National Tournament Picks & Odds
June 30, 2008
This weekend golfers will head to our nations capitol during our national holiday for the 2nd straight year, as Tiger Woods is set to host the 2008 AT&T National Tournament at Congressional Country Club. For those of you who don’t know much about this course, it can be one of the more tougher courses on tour as only two players were able to finish better than 3 under. Congressional Country Club is also set to be the host of the 2011 US Open, which means this tournament might be looking for a different course in the future. Last season KJ Choi was able to to put together one of his more impressive performances, as he was one of only two players who didn’t have a round over par. While the tournament will lose a lot of its hype without Tiger in the field there is still plenty of reasons to watch this weekend, and Jason Lowry is ready to take a look at the top 3 favorites this weekend and the defending champion Choi as well.
Jim Furyk - 12/1 at Sportsbook.com
While Fuyrk hasn’t been the guy many people thought he would be coming into the 2008 season, that can change if he is able to get on board with a win this weekend. Furyk does have 4 top 10 finishes and this weekend marks the 2nd straight week he comes into the tournament as the overall favorite. Last week didn’t go as well as planned as Furyk finished tied for 36th. If Furyk is going to do well this weekend he is going to have to get his putter going. We like Furyk’s odds and we think he has a great shot at taking home the trophy.
Mike Weir - 20/1 at Sportsbook.com
Weir is another guy that really hasn’t played all that well this season, but it looks like that might be changing as Weir is coming off 3 straight solid performances including a tie for 2nd at the Memorial Tournament and a solid 18th place finish at the US Open. Weir has yet to win this season, and there is hope that he can improve off his performance here last year, where he finished tied for 8th. While we wouldn’t place a big bet on the guy, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the top 10 again this weekend.
Hunter Mahan - 20/1 at Sportsbook.com
Mahan is a real threat this weekend, and we really like this guys chances to put together yet another solid performance this weekend. While Mahan only has 1 career win he is starting to show signs that he can be a golfer that can win every year. Mahan like Weir finished tied for 18th at the US Open, and is coming off his best performance of the year at the Travelers Championship where he finished tied for 2nd.
KJ Choi - 30/1 at Sportsbook.com
Your defending champion is one of the better golfers you don’t really hear that much about. He has won at least once in the last 4 years, including this year where he took home the win at the Sony Open In Hawaii. Choi is coming off a disappointing showing at the US Open where he failed to win the cut, but he still sits 12th in the point standings and is a solid threat to repeat this weekend.
