2007 Super Bowl Picks & Predictions
May 22, 2008
The odds makers feel strongly that this year’s Super Bowl champion will come out of the American Football Conference. The New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and San Diego Chargers are all favored over the NFC’s Chicago Bears to win the Super Bowl. Find out who Dave Price gives the edge to in his 2007 Super Bowl predictions.

If you read my NFL predictions article, then you know that I like the Bears to come out of the NFC and the Patriots to come out if the AFC. Nothing like playing favorites, huh? I love taking dogs with these future bets because that’s where the value is, but it’s a top heavy league right now, and after putting in the time in the research room, I feel like these teams give us the best chance to cash in our bets. After all, how good is a bet on the Carolina Panthers at 20/1 odds to win the Super Bowl when it doesn’t cash?
I’m not going to beat around the bush, I like the Chicago Bears to win Super Bowl XLII, and they are showing the best odds of the favorites at 12/1 so a max bet of $600 at Bodog is still going to pay pretty decent.
The Bears may not have the best statistical defense in the NFL this season, although they’ll be around the top, but they, without a doubt, have the best big play defense of any team in the NFL maybe ever. The Bears are a constant threat because they can score from both sides of the ball. No team in the NFL is better at stripping the football.
The other thing that sets the Bears apart is their special teams. Devin Hester has given Chicago a chance to score every time he catches a kickoff or punt. Unlike most NFL teams where defense is just about getting the ball back into the hands of the offense and special teams is all about field position, the Bears have the mentality and the ability to be on the offensive in every aspect of the game.
The offense will be better as well starting with Rex Grossman who was able to gain a world of experience playing his first full season as the quarterback of the Bears. Grossman still threw the long ball better than all but a handful of QB’s last season and his decision making will continue to improve with experience. With as strong as Chicago’s defense is, he doesn’t have to try to make the spectacular throws which get you into the kind of trouble Brett Favre has been in the last few seasons. And now with Thomas Jones out of the way, Cedric Benson will make good on his reputation as a power, downhill, workhorse back that the Bears need to control the football and to take more pressure off of Grossman.
The addition of Randy Moss is really the only difference between last year’s Pats and this years Pats and it has oddsmakers nearly chalking the New Englanders up as Super Bowl champs. With a healthy Mike Brown the Bears have one of the premier defensive backs in the game. Charles Tillman, Nathan Vasher, Ricky Manning Jr. and the addition of Adam Archuletta give the Bears a nucleus of fast, hard hitting DB’s who won’t lose many battles this season. If we see a showdown between the Patriots and the Bears in Super Bowl XLII, you can bet that Lovie won’t let the Pats beat them threw the air.
