Odds to Win the 2007 St. Jude Golf Tournament

Bodog lists 2007 St. Jude’s odds for this week’s PGA Tour event. The Stanford St. Jude Championship kicks off June 7th at TPC at Southwind in Memphis Tennessee. New sponsorship has raised the purse and moved the event to the weekend before the U.S. Open to give the long standing classic even more prestige. Unfortunately for the PGA Tour, golf fans, and the new sponsorship for the St. Jude Championship, Tiger Woods will not be participating in this week’s event as he takes his normal week to gear up for majors. With Tiger out of the mix, the favorite to win the St. Jude Championship goes to the field at 3/1 odds, followed by Vijay Singh at 8/1, Phil Mickelson at 10/1, Adam Scott at 10/1, and David Toms at 15/1.

I think it’s safe to say that the field is being overvalued. One of the listed golfers will win this lead up event to the U.S. Open. Vijay Singh comes in off a solid nine-under par tournament at the Memorial. He golfs very well with Woods out of his hair. He’ll have a great shot this week.
Phil “Lefty” Mickelson hasn’t played a tour event since winning the Tour Players Championship. The number two ranked player in the world could have some rust on his swing because of the lay off.
Adam Scott has finished 6th or better in the last two tournaments he’s played and he has finished in the top six in three of his last five tournaments so it comes as no surprise that he has risen among the favorites this week.
David Toms finds himself at 15/1 odds simply because of his history in this event collecting championships in 2003 and 2004.
