2007 Preakness Stakes Predictions & Horse Racing Picks

As we approach the Preakness on May 19th at Pimlico, all eyes are on Street Sense to see if he can set up a shot at the Triple Crown. You can get all of your 2007 Preakness Stakes Predictions right here at Priceless Picks.

The Derby winner already has 10 challengers who will attempt to keep him from a shot at the prestigious feat. Mint Slewlep is as slow to the finish as a mint julep cocktail is at getting me finished for the night. His fourth place finish in the Withers at Aqueduct in his last start doesn’t give Street any sort of scare. His trainer, Robert Bailes, has gotten a horse to finish second at the Preakness (Scrappy T in 2005), but never first.
Derby runner-up Hard Spun will be Street’s biggest competition. Not committed as yet, Derby show finisher Curlin will likely be a go as well. Street Sense, Hard Spun, and Curlin will provide us with another heavy weight battle to the finish line.
Teuflesberg, King of the Roxy, Xchanger, and either Flying First Class or Starbase will also take the track at Pimlico. Not that it matters. It took Teuflesberg as long to finish at the Derby as it does to say his name.
We can also expect to see C P West, Chelokee, and Sedgefield at the Preakness. Some bettors’ eyes are lighting up with not very many top finishers from the Derby expected to run at Preakness. Expect to see plenty of action on long shots showing great odds, but we won’t throw our money away on horses like Teuflesberg who finished 17th at the Derby.
Trainer Nick Zito is big on C P West after his runner-up finish at the Withers. Zito did not have a horse in the Derby and I think he’ll be out of his league at Pimlico. If the famed Todd Pletcher couldn’t get even one of his horses across first at the Derby, Zito has another thing coming. Pletcher is now 0-for-26 in Triple Crown races and will give it a go at the Preakness with King of the Roxy.
Let’s put into perspective what Street Sense is attempting to do. There hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since affirmed in 1978, but there has been six Triple tries in the past 10 years. So the odds of Street prevailing at the Preakness are pretty good, especially considering the small amount of starters. Hopefully he’ll get a chance to go for the clean sweep at the Belmont Stakes on June 9th.
