I’m sorry Ohio State fans, but I’m going to waste no time ruling you guys out in 2007. More young talent comes in and some remains, but there is not enough playmakers to replace the likes of eight players who went on to the NFL ranks after last season including Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and speedy wide out Tedd Ginn Jr.

Wisconsin will have a solid year once again as this team consistently puts one of the best offensive lines in the country on the field. These beefeaters up front make the Badger backs look so good that it gives pro scouts a false sense of their ability to perform at the next level. Ron Dayne is perhaps the best example. Having to break in a new QB will keep the Badgers from the top of the charts in the Big Ten conference.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are my sleeper to take the Big Ten this year. Kirk Ferentz has built a winning product and the Hawkeyes catch a major break in 2007 by not having to play Ohio State or Michigan. Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa coaching staff took some heat after last year’s disappointing campaign which had high hopes heading into the season. They will demand even more of their players to make sure that they don’t feel the heat again. Iowa at 8/1 odds, as listed at Bodog, might just be the value-shoppers special this season.

Michigan has the most talent on both sides of the ball in the entire conference. QB Chad Henne and running back Michael Hart give the Wolverines a Heisman Trophy-caliber backfield with wide receiver Mario Manningham perhaps being the best offensive weapon at his position in the country. Michigan’s defense is going to be the toughest one they’ve ever put on the field, but it will be solid enough, and we don’t anticipate anyone stopping this high octane offensive unit. At 2/1 odds, the Wolverines are our picks to win in our Big Ten Conference Predictions for 2007.
