Despite some questions to answer in the middle of the offensive line and in the defensive secondary the Texas Longhorns will remain the class of the conference thanks to back-to-back top ranked recruiting classes. QB Colt McCoy has league MVP written all over him because of his accuracy and composure in clutch situations.

The Oklahoma Sooners, despite losing a great one in Adrian Peterson, are still loaded with playmakers at the running back and receiver positions. And they have a secondary which is very adept at making big game changing plays as well on the defensive side of the football. If Oklahoma had a clear leader under center this team would maybe have the edge over Texas. Bob Stoops is quick to remind doubters that he’s won four Big 12 Championships with four different QBs. Defensively this team has some holes in the front seven as well, but Oklahoma and Texas are clearly the most talented teams in the league and will duke it out for the number one spot.

Texas A&M has the luxury of going to battle with veteran QB Stephen McGee who has talented running backs and an experienced offensive line to work with. It’s obvious that the Aggies are narrowing the gap In the Big 12 South but they are still not of the same caliber as the aforementioned schools. A far from dominant defense will be the weak point which hinders the Aggies in 2007.

Oklahoma State is another team that needs to spend some more time recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, QB Bobby Reid, running back Dantrell Savage, and wide receiver Adarius Bowman are as talented as any skill players in the league, but defensively the Cowboys haven’t gone to battle with a unit ranked better than 74th nationally in total defense since 2002. The Cowboys are going to have to outscore the opponents to win games this season. Didn’t anyone ever tell head man Mike Gundy that defense wins championships.

Texas Tech is yet another team in this division with a shaky defensive unit. The Red Raiders would gladly take third stringers from the ‘horns and start them feeling very good about their chances. QB Graham Harrell in primed for a big season, but the Red Raiders may be lacking guys who can haul it in for him as they lose three wideouts and Harrell is going to have to be on his toes as four new offensive lineman must be replaced. Running back Shannon Woods will be the work horse and the glue of the team. A small bowl game is really the best Tech can hope for this season.

Baylor will be the basement dweller once again. This is a team which has built up a strong defensive unit led by All-American Linebacker Joe Pawelek. The defensive front will have to live up to its billing and then some as a weak secondary could hinder this team all season long. With no QB or tailback to be excited about, the Baylor Bears go without reaching a bowl game yet again.
