Indianapolis Colts- AFC South Prediction- 1st Place (12-4)
The Colts finally got the monkey off their backs that was the New England Patriots and took home the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the 2006-07 season. The Colts have had four straight seasons of 12 or more victories winning division titles in all four of those seasons. Indy has really been the class of the AFC along with New England the last five years. Although their success culminated to a Super Bowl win last season, their reign at the top may be short lived. I definitely see another 12-win year and a division title in the weak South, but losing four key players makes me think another Super Bowl is out of the question. Tell me where they are going to replace RB Dominic Rhodes, WLB Cato June, and CBs Nick Harper and Jason David. Defense was already a weak point last season and it looks like it just got weaker.
Jacksonville Jaguars- AFC South Predictions- 2nd Place (9-7)
The Jaguars should easily win the race for second place in the South. The Jags heavily digressed from their 12-4 season in 2005, totaling just eight wins last year. The defense wasn’t the problem. The defense was a top-five unit last season despite being plagued by injuries. The lack of offense is being addressed by Jack Del Rio firing three assistant coaches, an upgrade of the offensive line and WR corps. You will also see Maurice Jones-Drew as the feature back more than likely. His young burst should get the nod over veteran Fred Taylor. Byron Leftwich is still the man under center for now, but who knows how long his relationship with Del Rio will remain civil. The defense is there so if anything keeps this team from the postseason, it’s the holes on offense.
Tennessee Titans- AFC South Prediction- 3rd Place (7-9)
Last year’s 8-8 record was amazing considering the Titans only totaled nine wins over the previous two seasons and considering that their defense allowed the most yards from scrimmage in the NFL. Vince Young really did do it all for the Titans and the franchise has left him to do it all again. No top-flight receiver arrived and no top-notch pass rusher came to camp. The Titans can’t stop anybody and one man (Young) is easier to defend than the three All-Pro caliber skill players that most teams throw at you. If the one man show get this team to eight wins again, it will be nothing short of a miracle.
Houston Texans- AFC South Prediction- 4th Place (5-11)
The Titans really aren’t any closer to competing in years six than they were in year one. Matt Schaub will be the new signal caller the Texans have put their trust in. We’re about to see how much of Houston’s problems on offense were David Carr and how much of it was one of the worst offensive lines in football. My guess is the latter. Ahman Green comes over from Green Bay as well to give the Texans a much needed threat in the backfield. My guess is that his wheels are just a year or two from falling off. Some new moves maybe, but it will be the same old tune in Houston.
