New England Patriots- AFC East Prediction- 1st Place (13-3)

The Patriots came within a minute of reaching their fourth Super Bowl in six years last season. Obviously not satisfied, they went out and got Linebacker Adalius Thomas, wide receivers Wes Welker, Donte’ Stallworth, Kelley Washington, and Randy Moss. With these additions, the Patriots improved their weak WR corps to one of the better ones in the AFC. Randy Moss gives this team a deep threat they have never really had which should open things up even more for Laurence Maroney. Defensively, the Pats have the best defensive line in the NFL and that is one area that separates them from the rest of the pack in the rugged AFC. Defensive Ends Richard Seymour and Ty Warren and Nose Tackle Ty Willfork will get the job done again in 2007 as the Pats look to add to their legacy.

New York Jets- AFC East Prediction- 2nd Place (9-7)

The Jets shoved a big sock in the mouths of those who predicted doom and gloom for them in 2006. Fist year head coach Eric Mangini became the Mangenius by season’s end Chad Pennington looked like his old self again. Thomas Jones, who comes over from Chicago will help out the running attack, but he isn’t the type of franchise back who will make a huge impact in the win column. Offensively, I don’t see any issues, but defensively the Jets come up short. A speed-based defense, which is nice way of saying undersized, gets punished by the run up inside ranking 24th last season. This will be their Achilles’ Heel again in 2007.

Buffalo Bills- AFC East Prediction- 3rd Place (7-9)

The Bills pulled the old fire sale in the offseason getting rid of vets for youth. This is the second year of Buffalo’s rebuilding project and it will result in another sub par season. Both the offense and defense lack the playmakers that the top teams in the league have. How is a team with J.P. Losman at QB going to compete with teams that have Tom Brady’s and Peyton Manning’s if they don’t have an unstoppable run game or a big play defense. The Bills are going to have to try to bring something else to the table. Lee Evans is the Bills best playmaker on offense, and Losman is going to have to trust him more to make plays. Another average season is on the horizon. Bills fans I talk to are still having trouble adjusting to that.

Miami Dolphins- AFC East Prediction- 4th Place (5-11)

The Nick Saban Era is over. Cam Cameron, San Diego’s bright offensive mind, takes over the reigns this season. He’ll quickly find out that its much tougher to call plays when there isn’t a LaDainian Tomlinson on the squad. His top priority will be finding a starting QB. This won’t be accomplished this year. At least defensive coordinator Dom Capers is back to keep the “D” in the Dolphins. Another good year by Jason Taylor will have to be celebrated at the Pro Bowl because the fish aren’t even close to playoff bound.
