The 2007 Virginia Tech Hokies have had better teams for sure, but this squad will likely capture a Coastal division title benefiting from a friendly home schedule getting to play Boston College, Florida State, and Miami all at home. An improved offensive line will likely make Branden Ore the MVP of the league and with preseason Defensive Player of the Year candidate Vince Hall in the middle of the defense, the Hokies should be the team to beat.

Georgia Tech is another ACC team with an untested QB that must mature in a hurry. My guess is that QB Sean Glennon is going to have to carry his share of the load without Calvin Johnson around anymore. Georgia Tech has a strong defense and solid special teams, but losing the most explosive player in college football last season is just too big of a blow for the Jackets to repeat.

Miami has had some great collegiate QBs, but their talented QBs, Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman, who are competing for the starting job haven’t been able to develop into the stars they were slated to become because they’ve had to work with three coordinators now in as many seasons. We can’t bank on this offense which has been very erratic in recent years. Defense, as always, keeps this team afloat.

The Virginia Cavaliers will give the football to QB Jameel Sewell and see where he can take them. He’ll likely have to make more plays with his feet than through the air as his receiving corps is unproven and the back are not very speedy. Virginia does have a nice tight end tandem to give them some other options to explore offensively. All you can expect is another rebuilding year for the Cavs and hopefully a .500 season.

First year head coach Butch Davis knows how to resurrect a sleeping giant, but I think the best think North Carolina could do to turnaround its program is to let Roy Williams coach the football team too. There’s no getting around the fact that UNC lacks talent up front on both sides of the ball. The basketball team will have more wins in one week than the football team comes up with all season.

The Duke/North Carolina basketball rivalry is among the best in all of sports, but the football rivalry isn’t even on the map. Despite returning starting QB Thaddeus Lewis and the entire starting offense, the Blue Devils flat out lack the talent to compete with the rest of the league. An active 20-game losing streak is a stigma for any team to shake. If the Blue Devils can come up with two wins in 2007, head coash Ted Roof will be a hero.
